YOGA SAGARA SARAM QUOTES
An Introduction to patanjali’s yoga Philosophy
1. “Yama and Niyama practiced as Samanya vratas can lead to a good harmonious society while when practiced as mahavratas, can take an individual to heights of greatest achievements which are far beyond our conception – as spread of love in the vicinity of an accomplished person where even enemy animals live together! These are the foundations of Yoga. Then come the famous asanas and Pranayama. When practiced in sequence, the asanas open up the inner nadis to allow free flow of prana in them so that pranayama becomes more effective….. By this work, I believe that the author has evolved a new approach to the study and understanding of Patanjali in a logical sequence” (p. vi)

2. Through Yama and Niyama, the mind is clarified, though not completely calm yet. Asana and Pranayama starts working on the gross and the subtle sheaths of the body. Asana gives stability and fluidity to the body, which now can support meditation without interference. We are also in control of two tattvas, namely, earth (stability) and water (fluidity). Pranayama clarifies the subtle sheath of prana, lets prāna or the vital energy to flow all through the body and bestows ‘fire’ to the body, the third tattva to come under control. Further, pranayama provides good assimilation of the food we eat and free us of the waste products from the body. (Yoga Sagara Saram, p. 63).
